Underwater rounds

These are examples of underwater rounds. The bottow one is a rocket projectile. The middle two are for a rifle. The lower one is a tracer (there is a pyrotechnic element in the base of the projectile that burns underwater that allows the shooter to observe the trajectory of the projectile). The topmost rounds are for a pistol. All of these share a common principle of creating a cavitation bubble at the tip of the projectile as it moves through the water. In this manner the projectile does not slow in the same way as if it were passing through water without the benefit of a air bubble.

Here are examples of the SP-2 and SP-3 rounds. In each pair there is a loaded and fired example.

7.62 x 64 PZAM and PZA

These are captive piston pistol rounds. They function by trapping the gas within the case and the projectile is pushed down the barrel by the piston (the protruding posts in the 2 fired rounds). By trapping the propelling gases the 'report' of the pistol is nearly silent.
